About

The Advanced Software Technology Group (ASTG) is a part of the NASA Computational and Information Science and Technology Office located at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. ASTG comprises computer scientists dedicated to the development, advancement, and maintenance of the software stack that drives NASA’s Earth System Models (ESMs). The group provides software solutions for several ESMs that range from basic maintenance through infrastructure, modernization, and the deployment of high-end solutions that leverage emerging computing systems and paradigms. ASTG also actively develops domain-specific ESM agnostic tools that streamline operations, common analytics, and visualization tasks to support the user community, open-science, and scientific exploration as well as research and development in machine-learning-based ESMs and algorithm development that supports NASA’s Precipitation Measurement Mission (PMM).
